With great sadness, OGC announces the passing of\u00a0our\u00a0cherished colleague, Mr. Jeffrey Burnett of Littleton, Mass, on 28 November 2023, from cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jeff joined OGC as Vice President for\u00a0Operations and\u00a0Finance\u00a0in April, 2000,\u00a0serving as OGC\u2019s Chief Financial Officer\u00a0and member of the Board of Directors until his retirement in 2020.\u00a0\u00a0In the 20 years prior to\u00a0joining\u00a0OGC, Jeff\u00a0held\u00a0product management positions in the emerging imaging and high-performance computing market with Digital Equipment Corporation and the Massachusetts Computer Corporation (MASSCOMP). It\u00a0was during this time that he first met and worked with the founders of OGC, who\u00a0would later call upon Jeff to lead the Consortium\u2019s\u00a0senior staff\u00a0to support OGC\u2019s continued expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jeff was deeply committed to OGC\u00a0and\u00a0proved to be incredibly talented as the Consortium\u2019s\u00a0finance lead.\u00a0Jeff\u00a0constantly sought ways to improve the Consortium\u2019s approach to the fiscal and operational intricacies of OGC\u2018s global mission. He approached his work with professionalism,\u00a0tremendously sharp wit,\u00a0and a delightfully wry sense of\u00a0humor\u00a0\u2013 qualities appreciated by\u00a0OGC Directors, Staff, and the many Member representatives he worked with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jeff Burnett was a talented student and manager from the beginning of his career. Having grown up a sailor on the shores of Massachusetts Bay, Jeff was also an avid reader. He earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in English Literature from Dartmouth College where he graduated also as a commissioned Naval officer. Upon graduation, Jeff served with honor in the U.S. Navy. A student at heart, upon returning as a reserve officer Jeff then attended Harvard University Business School where he earned his MBA. He was\u00a0a patriot, a\u00a0storyteller, and an avid\u00a0amateur\u00a0genealogist \u2013\u00a0discovering and creating lasting relationships with\u00a0extended family and\u00a0relatives around the world. Most importantly, Jeff\u00a0was a deeply caring family man to his wife Janine, son Evan, and daughter Sarah. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This\u00a0remarkable colleague and friend\u00a0of OGC\u00a0will be deeply missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
