Through the use of existing OGC standards, it aims at being an interoperable exchange format that may be re-used to address a range of exchange requirements. OGC WaterML2.0 is, however, a harmonized information model between a number of standards from various countries with existing OGC standards. OGC WaterML2.0 is based on the OGC Observations and Measurements standard (ISO 19156).
